Depression Adjustment

Depression is not something you choose, and it is not something you can simply “snap out of.” It is more than feeling sad or down. Depression can feel heavy, isolating, and difficult to explain, especially when it seems that no one fully understands what you are experiencing.

I am Kisstopher Musick, PhD, lead therapist at Adjustment Guidance. I work with individuals experiencing depression by providing a calm, supportive space where you can speak openly and begin making sense of what you are feeling. Whether your depression is connected to a specific life event or has been present for a long time, you do not have to face it alone.

Our work begins with talk therapy, which helps us understand the nature and sources of your depression. For some people, depression is largely biological, arising from changes in brain chemistry. For others, it is connected to difficult life circumstances such as loss, relationship problems, work stress, or major life transitions. Often, both biological and situational factors play a role.

Once we better understand your experience, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps identify and challenge the patterns of thinking that can reinforce hopelessness, self-criticism, and withdrawal. Together, we work to gradually reintroduce activities that provide a sense of meaning, accomplishment, and enjoyment. Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) complements this process by helping you replace harsh self-judgment with a more supportive and understanding inner voice.

By combining talk therapy, CBT, and CFT, therapy becomes both practical and compassionate. My role is to help you understand what is happening, develop effective coping strategies, and take manageable steps toward feeling better. Change does not happen overnight, but with the right support, it is possible.

Even if things feel overwhelming right now, you deserve understanding, support, and more good days than bad. If you feel ready, I invite you to reach out by email or schedule an initial Zoom session.
